Vashadze "I even have a flag design"

Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed the international community demanding to call the country Batman from now on. According to the twelve page document published by the Ministry, country’s capital Tbilisi should be called Gotham City and Georgians should further be referred to as Batmen. Minister of Foreign Affairs Grigol Vashadze explained the initiative: “We suddenly realized that Batman sounds so much cooler than Georgia. And that is pretty much the only justification we can think of right now…Oh, also the word Batman is more recognizable to Americans, who happen to be our strategic partners”.

Under proposed amendments country’s President will have the Constitutional right to wear Batman suit during official meetings and ceremonies. It is largely believed that due to its awesomeness the suit will raise the effectiveness of Georgian diplomacy by estimated 170 % during official negotiations and will force heads of other states to approach Georgian President and take photographs, thus increasing positive publicity.

Press Secretary of the incumbent President Valiko Krakashvili told reporters that the President is very excited about MFA’s initiative and will do everything in his hands to speed up the referendum. “We contacted several companies that make Halloween costumes and are currently expecting their bids.  The President really wants to make it to San Francisco ComicCon conference too”

Huseyin Kalkan, Mayor of the Turkish town ironically called Batman too demanded Georgian authorities to “cut the crap”. The town had been preparing a lawsuit against Warner Brothers and the director Christopher Nolan since 2008. “Georgians have no idea what they are getting into,  since that movie came out in 2005 the suicide rate in Batman tripled. I guess because of overall disappointment with lack of actual Batman in town. If they do it countrywide, the death toll will be huge”, – warned Kalkan.

Sources claim that Country Formerly Known As Georgia is considering two more name options: “Spider-Man” as relatively pretty cool too and “Captain America” as a more pro-American variant.

All of this is ridiculously unfair.

Saakashvili: "Awsome to see you, guys"

Armenian Comedy (A.C.) team just returned from Tbilisi, Georgia, where we had an exclusive interview with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili (M.S.), who in the recent week has been in the center of spotlight more than usually. Sharing a couple of beers and peanuts, Saakashvili got very sincere with Armenian journalists.

A.C. Mr President, it’s been a while since our last meeting, how have you been?

M.S. Awesome, I’ve been following the success of your website, although I think you make too many jokes about Georgians, we are not that funny. On a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being boring 10 being hilarious, Georgians are a solid 4, while you Armenians are an 8.

A.C. That’s exactly why we decided not to write jokes about Georgians, but rather have a serious interview. You seem very excited today, what is the reason?

M.S. Yeah, I’m pretty excited, I’m still enjoying that big BOOM I made in Kutaisi, it was awesome, guys, the huge thing just went BOOM and then all that there was left was concrete and rubble. That was the awesomest thing ever, dude!

A.C. But that was a monument for WWII veterans, don’t you think you kind of disrespected them by blowing that monument?

M.S. No, I totally respect veterans, veterans are awesome dude, but I really, really needed that spot! I needed to move Parliament from Tbilisi.

A.C. Right, you blew up a historic monument to move Parliament, why, isn’t there some other “isi” besides Tbilisi and Kutaisi, to have Parliament in?

M.S. Well I’d really rather have the Parliament in Kutaisi. Being the only politician in town just boosts my general awesomeness, besides the Parliament was on Rustaveli street and real estate is pretty expensive there.

A.C. Wait, are you planning to sell that territory?

M.S. Correction, I already sold the place, ka-ching! Guess where the new Wal-Mart’s gonna be?

A.C. But why destroy a monument to move the damn Parliament, why not move it somewhere else.

M.S. Yeah maybe you’re right, on the other hand, you really should’ve heard that BOOM, you guys, that was really freaking awesome!

A.C Did you hear that Vladimir Putin wants to rebuild that monument in Moscow?

M.S. Oh that douchebag, he’s all about PRing himself, besides I don’t think there’s any space left in Moscow. This whole Putin thing is just so unawesome in every way. Have a peanut…

A.C. Mr. President, what was the public reaction in Georgia, did people protest against the explosion?

M.S. Not really, people of Georgia know how awesome I am and that I’ll never make a bad decision. In fact I spend all the foreign aid money on my SAAP.

A.C. What’s an SAAP?

M.S. Saakashvili Awesomeness Awareness Program, it just tells everyone the truth about me, and accelerates their natural tendency to like me.

A.C. Indeed everyone likes you and your Youtube tie video was a smash hit.

M.S. Yep, I got my own Youtube channel and Cartier signed a contract with me to advertise their new tie line. It’s so awesome

A.C. And what are your plans for the future, besides showbusiness and advertising?

M.S. Well I really like this explosion thing, I might do a little more of that. We still have a lot of buildings in the country built by Soviet occupants, so I’m gonna do more BOOMS in the future, it’s gonna be awesome.

A.C. And lastly we noticed that you’ve been using the word “awesome” quite a few times, what’s up with that Mr. President?

M.S. Awesome is just such an awesome word and it just sums up my personality so well…I think it might have been invented for me. English-Georgian dictionaries now have my photo as the definition of the word.

A.C. Thank you very much Mr. President for the in-depth interview, we wish you luck in your…whatever it is you’re doing.

U.S. does not give up on democracy prospects in Armenia

 On Monday U.S. Embassy unveiled a new program that will help Armenian government in fight against assholes on grassroots level, as well as in government institutions. The new “Anti-asshole Action Project” (AAP) is sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development.

 USAID Mission Director introduced the new program: “Our new strategy is to combine all the anti-corruption, anti-trafficking and anti-fraud programs into a single comprehensive anti-asshole initiative to address Armenia’s main challenge in democratic development. This program is expected to help Armenia follow its international commitment to combat assholes.”

 U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch provided the big picture of the program: “This is a part of U.S. democracy assistance to Armenia. The ultimate goal of this and similar projects in Georgia and Azerbaijan is to create an asshole-free South Caucasus.”

'We are not too optimistic about Iraq or Afghanistan, so we are happy to channel more money for democracy in Armenia,' Yovanovitch

 Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan welcomed the initiative of the U.S. partners. “This initiative perfectly complements our own efforts and specifically our ‘Anti-asshole National Strategy’ which is aimed to reduce percentage of assholes in government institutions and judiciary by 20% through 2010-2013.”  Sargsyan also added: “We are happy to receive the valuable anti-asshole experience and mechanisms from our U.S. and E.U. partners.”

Russian Federation was quick to condemn the new project. Russian Ambassador Vyacheslav Kovalenko called the new program “provocative” and “undermining Russian-Armenian friendly ties.” “U.S. is once again trying to impose a pro-Western regime in Armenia advocating the anti-asshole sentiments. This is a direct involvement into state of affairs of our South Caucasus friend,” said Kovalenko. “The program seems to target our key partners in Armenia and bears an explicitly anti-Russian implications,” added the Russian diplomat.

 The new anti-asshole program envisages creation of 11 Anti-asshole Advice Centers (ASSAC) in all marzes of Armenia and Yerevan equipped with lawyers who will consult and support victims of assholes on both local government and business levels. The Centers will not only help individual citizens, but will also seek to reform legislation to eliminate asshole loopholes allowing the vicious behavior.

 Head of Transparency International, which implements the program in Armenia, Amalia Kostanyan shared hopes and concerns: “The project is really complicated, since Armenia suffers from system-level asshole syndrome and little can be done without political will of authorities. Unfortunately so far they [authorities] prefer to bluff the public and donors by prosecuting only low-rank assholes while the big shots remain immune to justice.” 

 Kostanyan also reminded that Armenia is currently ranked 109th out of 180 countries with similar asshole issues, while only 2 years ago the asshole barometer ranked Armenia 79^th.  

'Why would anyone want to change anything?' head of NA faction

The new program was heavily criticized by head of one of the key parliamentary factions (preferred to remain anonymous) who denounced the anti-asshole program as an attempt to change regime: “The new program is an obvious step to implement a color revolution in Armenia. I’m not saying we support assholes, but we need an evolutionary process and generation change. By quick removal of assholes we undermine fragile government system of the country… It’s just too early.. we are not prepared.”

 Sociologist Aharon Adibekyan brought arguments against radical anti-asshole measures calling this “an untimely initiative”. “Azerbaijan and Georgia are doing much worse on the asshole scale than Armenia. To compare, only some 20% of respondents in Yerevan identified themselves as assholes while in Azerbaijan and Georgia results have been 30 and 40 per cent respectively. The critical threshold after which country is in real trouble is 40 per cent which is not likely in the near future given our demographic tendencies.” Adibekyan also mentioned that 90% of Armenians are against the new anti-asshole programs. “People are just very conservative here. You can’t impose an anti-asshole agenda out of blue,” explained Adibekyan

 Head of Public Chamber Vazgen Manukyan also harshly criticized the new effort. “I’m not sure what this is for and who is implied..” said Manukyan, “but I personally find it very insulting. I mean basically this program may appear to also harm some of the good guys who are by mistake perceived as assholes due to some.. you know… misunderstandings.”

Independent analyst Arthur Avtandilyan believes the anti-asshole program is not likely to find true favor with government. “Basically this is an offer to commit suicide for the government. Similar offers were proposed by U.S. in the past in form of “Free and Fair Elections” program which didn’t not work either. I don’t think this one has any bigger chances,” says Avtandilyan.

 The new USAID program will also raise public awareness on threats of asshole behavior and will establish an anti-asshole HOT-LINE through which citizens will be able to receive confidential advice or schedule an appointment with ASSAC lawyers.

No toasts for Gul

Turkish side pushed out a new precondition for opening Turkish-Armenian border that quickly electrified the dispute between Armenia and the Diaspora. The new precondition demands Serzh Sargsyan to participate at Abdullah Gul’s 58^th birthday party. Celebration is expected to feature all the standard procedures: hugging, wishing well, birthday cards, gifts, drinking, candle-blowing and calling up a taxi.

Dashnaks were quick to respond by organizing a multi-dozen rally in front of the MFA. “This definitely is a trap for Armenia. We do not oppose birthday celebration, but we are concerned that toasts to Gul’s health are likely to be voiced at the table, which is unacceptable. This may go as far as to wishing for a long and happy life, which clearly contradicts to our National Interests.”

Press Service of President Sargsyan issued an immediate release: “It is the President’s intention to make the first step in building better relations between two nations. In case of extremely anti-Armenian toasts, the President, naturally, will abstain from actual clinking glasses.”

Dashnaktsutyun party organized a 4-hour-rotation-shift hunger strike in front of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Save your laughter” was the message from Giro Manoyan, “ statistically, hunger strikes exceeding 4 hours may simply harm one’s health, and our Motherland does need healthy Dashnaks.” Dashnaks also plan to organize additional one-hour labor strikes, every working day from 13:00 till 14:00.

To calm down the panic among Diaspora, President Sargsyan organized a world tour around Diaspora spots. But that only ruffled patriots of Armenian Diaspora and created lots of extra work for local policemen.

Extremist Dashnak (hereinafter ED) military groups residing in Lebanon and other idle representatives of Diaspora, vowed to bombard Armenia in case the borders are opened. Their leader Sasoun Dushmanyan mentioned that it is not desirable to raise hand on your own Motherland, but if it comes to that, the EDs will hardly hesitate. “Several victims in Yerevan, some 3-4 exploded buildings, of course that would be tragic, but it would be even more tragic if Armenian vocal chords join the harmony in performing “Happy Birthday” for Gul.” – said a patriotic guerilla.

At the same time, reports came up of protest against Serzh Sargsyan organized by Jewish Diasporas worldwide. They were irritated by the fact that the Armenian President visited only Armenian communities. Rabbi Itskhak Zeldovitch from Poland believes that “This was an obvious act of antisemitism by Armenian authorities. Are we a second rank people? Doesn’t Armenia care about our opinion of the Turkish-Armenian border at all???”

Australian-Armenian Diaspora followed with the toughest feedback: Diaspora patriots organized a petition and called Armenian authorities for strong measures aimed at  returning Western Armenian territories.

Aramayis Humparian, leader of Aussie-Armenian Diaspora said in his speech: “Armenian authorities must exhibit some pride and bravely attack Turkey. It’s a shame, after 18 years of being an independent state, they still have not returned the territories. yes the war may be unequal, and as a result Armenia may vanish from the political map, but we, Aussie-Armenians have the courage to accept that sacrifice. We commit to keep eternal memory of our brothers…from here. Besides this may be another cute example of  moral victory.”

Similar call came from another quintessential centre of Armenianhood, Glendale, CA. 35-year-old Richard Tambalian said that it is important at this point in history for every Armenian residing in Armenia to take weapon and attack the enemy. And he, Tambalian, in his turn will give utmost moral support to Armenian troops by ceasing to order Turkish coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts.

While situation gets more and more strained in Armenia, legislators have already adopted a number of reforms on eve of opening the borders. Reformed legislation allows legal sale, purchase and application of arms, and the punishment for racial intolerance was removed from the Criminal Code.

NA MP Sahak Minasyan clarified: “We try to make the border opening as safe as possible for the citizens. New legislation allows them to settle every dispute related with border opening on their own.”

"Why would Armenians want to harm our economy?" - Saakashvili

Georgian leader Mikheil Saakashvili is also among those who protest border opening: “Armenians slap their Georgian friends by opening that border. It is obvious that after the opening Georgia will no longer be able to sustain the amount of profits from Armenia and will no longer be the only link to the outside world. Obviously, our economy will suffer. The opening of the border diminishes our importance to zero.” Saakashvili was depressed about the future border opening “We cannot find any justification for this economical slap from Armenia, we can’t upkeep a country just by selling corn on the beach.” added Saakashvili in a trembling voice, with eyes full of sadness and eyebrows seeking the sky.

Turkish society is split over the border opening, too. “We are not confident that the Armenian leader is ready to sincerely wish Gul a Happy Birthday. Previously Armenia sent no congratulations or at least birthday cards at similar occasions.” Turkish newspapers say.

Abdullah Gul’s speaker revealed official concerns :“I hope Armenia will demonstrate political will and will stay until dessert is served and will fully participate in clinking to all toasts, as well as candle-blowing. Of course wishes of health and longivity will need to imply reasonable timestrips, as opposed to vague timeframes.”

And Armenian soccer fans, who were impatiently expecting Armenia- Turkey game, encourage the Armenian team to play in a manner contrasting their regular spirit on October, 11. “” I think if our team plays in a manner 100% contradicting the traditional manner, we will have a glorious victory to celebrate” said president of Armenian Soccer fans club Khachatur Gndakyan.

No toasts for Gul

Հայաստան-Թուրքիա սահմանի բացման հարցում թուրքական կողմը առաջ է քաշել նոր նախապայման, ինչը թեժացրել է Հայաստանյան և Սփյուռքի հակազդեցությունը բացման գործարքին: Նոր նախապայմանը ենթադրում է Սերժ Սարգսյանի մասնակցությունւ Գյուլի` հոկտեմբերի 29-ին կայանալիք ծննդյան 58 ամյակին: Մասնակցությունն իր բոլոր համապատասխան պարագաներով, փոթաթվելով, բարեմախթանքներով, բացիկներով, նվերներով, խմելով և տաքսի կանչելով:

Դաշնակները արձագանքեցին միանգամից կազմակերպելով բազմատասնյակ ցույց ԱԳՆ-ի դիմաց: “Սա միանշանակ ծուղակ է հայկական կողմի համար: Որպես սկզբունք մենք դեմ չենք ծննդյան օրվան մասնակցությանը, բայց մեր մտավախությունն է, որ սեղանի շուրջ կխմեն Գյուլի առողջության կենացը, ինչը մեզ համար անընդունելի է: Գուցե և հնչեն կյանքի երկար տարիների մաղթանքներ, ինչը պարզապես հակասում է մեր ազգային շահերին:”

Նախագահ Սարգսյանի մամլո ծառայությունը արդեն հաղորդել է, որ “Նախագահի նպատակն է անել առաջին քայլը երկու ժողովուրդների մտերմացման հարցում: Առավել անհայանպաստ կենացների դեպքում բնականաբար նախագահը չի չխկացնի բաժակը,” ասված է մամլո հաղորդագրության մեջ:

Սակայն դաշնակները նույն օրը կազմակերպեցին հացադուլ 4 ժամյա հերթափոխով Արտաքին գործերի նախարարության դիմաց: “Պետք չէ ծիծաղալ,” կոչ արեց Գիրո Մանոյանը մոտեցող լրագրողներին, “4 ժամից ավել հացադուլը պարզապես կարող է վնասել առողջությանը, իսկ դաշնակները դեռ շատ պետք են մեր հայրենիքին:” Դաշնակցությունը նաև նախատեսում է կազմակերպել լրացուցիչ մեկժամյա գործադուլներ, յուրաքանչյուր աշխատանքային օր, 13:00-ից 14:00:

Սփոյուռքի աճող տագնապը փարատելու նպատակով, նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը նախաձեռնեց այցելություններ հայկական Սփյուռքի օջախներ: Սակայն դա միայն բորբոքեց հայրենասեր սփյուռքահայերին և ավելնորդ գործ առաջացրեց տեղացի ոստիկանների մոտ:

Լիբանանում բնակվող ծայրահեղ դաշնակցական (այսուհետ՝ ԾԴ) զինված միավորումները և այլ պարապ մնացած սփյուռքահայերը, խոսք տվեցին սահմանի բացման դեպքում ռմբակոծել Հայաստանի տարածքը: Նրանց առաջնորդ Սասուն Դուշմանյանը նշեց, որ հայրենիքի վրա ձեռք բարձրացնելը, իհարկե վերջին քայլն է, բայց անհրաժեշտության դեպքում ԾԴ-ականները այդ քայլին էլ կդիմեն: “Մի քանի զոհ Երևանում, մի 3-4 պայթեցրած շենք. դա ցավալի է, բայց մի մոռացեք, որ շատ ավելի ցավալի կլինի, եթե Գյուլի համար “Happy birthday” երգելիս մասնակցեն հայկան ձայնալարեր:” – հպարտորեն նշեց մի հայրենասեր մարտիկ:

Միառժամանակ տարածվեց տեղեկատվություն, որ հրեական համայնքները ամբողջ աշխարհում կազմակերպել են բողոքի ակցիա Սերժ Սարգսյանի դեմ. նրանք վրդովված են, որ Հայաստանի նախագահն այցելեց միմիայն հայկական համայնքները: Լեհաստանում բնակվող ռեբե Իցխակ Զելդովիչը ասաց: “Հայաստանի իշխանությունների կողմից, սա ակնհայթ հակասեմիթության դրսևորում էր. փաստորեն մենք երկրորդ սորտի մարդիկ ենք ու հայերին բացարձակ չի հետաքրքրում հրեաների կարծիքը թուրքական սահմանի բացման շուրջ”:

Առավել կոշտ արձագանք եղավ Ավստրալահայ համայնքից, որտեղ ստորագրահավաքի արդյունքում Սփոյւռահայ հայրենասերները կոչ արեցին Հայաստանի իշխանություններին գործնական քայլեր ձեռնարկել Արևմտյան Հայաստանը վերադարձնելու ուղղությամբ:

Ավստրալահայ համայնքի ղեկավար Արամայիս Համփարյանը ասաց իր ելույթում` “Հայաստանի իշխանությունները պետք է մի փոքր հպարտություն ցուցաբերեն և խիզախորեն հարձակվեն Թուրքիայի վրա: Ամոթ է, արրդեն 18 տարի անկախ երկիր է, իսկ հողերը դեռ չի վերադարձրել: Այո, անհավասար պատերազմի արդյունքում գուցե Հայաստանը վերանա, բայց մենք` ավստրալահայերս, պատրսատ ենք խիզախորեն ընդունել նույնիսկ այդ ծանր զոհաբերությունը: Մենք պատրաստ ենք մաքսիմալ վառ պահել մեր եղբայրների հիշատակը այստեղից: Բացի դրանից դա կարող է լինել մեր հերթական բարոյական հաղթանակը:”

Հայության ևս մի կարևորագույն կենտրոնից՝ Գլենդելից հնչեցին նմանատիպ կոչեր: 35-ամյա գլենդելցի Ռիչարդ Թամբալյանը նշեց, որ պատմության այս կետում հարկավոր է, որ յուրաքանչյուր հայաստանաբնակ հայ զենք վերցնի և հարձակվի թշնամու վրա: Իսկ ինքը՝ Թամբալյանը խոստացավ հոգեպես օժանդակել հայ մարտիկներին, և այլևս Dunkin’ Donuts սրճարաններից Turkish Coffee չգնել:

Մինչդեռ կրքերը բորբոքվում են, հայ օրենսդիրները արդեն ընդունել են մի շարք օրենքներ սահմանի բացման շեմին: Բարեփոխված օրենսդրությունը թույլ է տալիս զենքի ու զինամթերքի վաճառքն ու կիրառումը, իսկ քրեական օրենսգրքից հանված է պատիժը ազգային անհանդուրժողականությամբ դրդված բռնության համար:

ԱԺ պատգամավոր Սահակ Մինասյանը պարզաբանեց` “Մենք փորձում ենք սահմանի բացումը դարձնել առավել անվտանգ հայկական կողմի համար: Նոր օրենսդրությունը թույլ է տալիս քաղաքացիներին ինքնուրույն շտկել յուրաքանչյուր թերություն կապված բաց սահմանի հետ:”

'Ինչու են հայերը փորձում վնասել մեր տնտեսությանը...' - Սաակաշվիլի

Սահմանի հնարավոր բացման դեմ արտահայտվել է նաև Վրաստանի առաջնորդ Միխեիլ Սաակաշվիլին, որը սուր քննադատության է մատնել նախաստորագրված փաստաթուղթը. “Հայաստանը այս քայլով ակնհայտ ապտակ է հասցնում իր բարեկամ վրացիներին: Ակնհայտ է, որ Թուրքիայի հետ սահմանի բացման դեպքում Վրաստանը չի կարողանա նույն քանակությամբ տնտեսական օգուտ ստանալ Հայաստանից և այլևս չի լինի միակ կապը արտաքին աշխարհի հետ: Հետևաբար մենք կունենանք տնտեսական կորուստներ: Սահմանի բացումը գրեթե զրոյացնում է մեր կարևորությունը:” Սաակաշվիլին խորը ցավ արտահայտեց հնարավոր բացման կապակցությամբ: “Ոչ մի բանով չի կարող արդարացվել այս տնտեսական ապտակը Հայաստանի կողմից, մենակ ‘ցխելի սիմինդիով’ պետություն չես պահի” ավելացրեց Սաակաշվիլին դողացող ձայնով, որի աչքերը ակնհայտորեն լցված էին, իսկ ունքերը` լղոզված :

Թուրք հասարակությունը ևս միանշանակ չէ սահմանի բացման հարցում: “Մենք վստահ չենք, որ Հայաստանի առաջնորդը իրոք պատրաստ է անկեղծ շնորհավորել Գյուլի ծնունդը: Նախորդ ոչ մի նման տարեդարձի ժամանակ հայկական կողմը չի ուղարկել շնորհավորանք կամ բացիկ,” գրում են թուրքական թերթերը:

Աբդուլա Գյուլի խոսնակը նաև արտահայտեց մտահոգություն. “Ես հուսով եմ Հայաստանը կկարողանա դրսևորել քաղաքական կամք և մնալ մինչև քաղցրեղենի մատուցումը և լիարժեք մասնակցել մոմերի փչելուն, ինչպես նաև պատշաճ չխկացնել բոլոր կենացներին: Բնականաբար առողջության և երկար տարիների կյանքին վերաբերող կենացները պետք է ենթադրեն ողջամիտ ժամկետներ այլ ոչ անորոշ ժամանակացույց:”

Իսկ Հայաստան-Թուրքիա խաղին սպասող հայ ֆուտբոլասերները, իրենց հերթին, կոչ են արել հայկական թիմին ցուցաբերել իրենց ոչ բնորոշ խաղ հոկտեմբերի 11-ին: “Կարծում եմ, եթե մեր թիմը խաղա իրեն բնորոշ ոճին 100% հակառակ, ապա մենք կունենանք փայլուն հաղթանակ,” ասել է ֆուտբոլասերների ակումբի նախագահ Խաչատուր Գնդակյանը:

European envoyee explains the benefit of women drivers in parliament

Armenian parliament is to provide seats for minorities including Kurds, Russians, Yezdis, gays, women-drivers and idiots. The bill was prompted by special representative of European Council Silvia Zehe who reminded Armenian legislators of their commitments to Europe.

“If Armenia truly wants to be a part of Europe, you need to get your Parliament to represent all social groups of the society. The traffic signs and so-called zebras, for one thing, are not arranged in a cute, sparkly manner obviously due to under-representation of women drivers,” stated Zehe.

Political parties appeared upset over possible shuffling for room. Head of Republicans Sahak Galustyan said: “I’m not sure parliament is the right place for women-drivers, not to mention idiots. Don’t get me wrong – I have nothing against idiots on personal level. In fact, I don’t think they are silly at all. But involving this minority in parliament.. it’s just too weird, you know.”

As expected, most heated debate was focused on the disputed need to include idiots into the National Assembly. Representatives of intelligentsia and most of factions expressed concern over this. Head of the Heritage party Stepan Safaryan summarized the position: “With all respect to Europe, we believe involvement of idiots in legislative work may significantly drop overall efficiency of the parliament.”

The issue was countered by head of OSCE Mission in Armenia Sergey Kapinos who explained why this group is vital for parliament. In a briefing with press, Kapinos said: “Parliament is a place where the whole society is supposed to be represented. And according to recent World Bank research, past decades’ brain-drain resulted in the biggest percentage of intellectually challenged individuals per capita compared to other CIS countries.” Ambassador shared success stories from neighboring Georgia. “After the minority was allowed in the parliament, they shortly took over the power in Georgia. Currently we see a tendency of better representation of this layer in Parliament here as well, but it is still too low,” added Kapinos.

'Only our party can fully represent intellectually challanged minority in parliament'

Some of the extra-parliamentary forces made hurried attempts of taking advantage of the European demand. Leader of People’s Party Tigran Karapetyan told journalists: “Europe is only awaking, while our party has been ringing the bell for 8 years now. They (authorities) naively try to fool Europe by pretending intellectually challenged before cameras in press conference. European are not idiots, they realize that the real potential lies with me and my party and we are ready to present their interests.”

On the counter side, thousands of right-wing intellectuals protested against possible inclusion of mandatory seats for idiots in downtown Yerevan. “Latent intellectually challenged minorities are actually over-represented in parliament. They simply lack political will to admin so. What we really need is more nerds in legislation,” said one of the students while black-clothed bullies approached to silence the dissident.

And finally Kaka Khachapooridze, Georgian Ambassador to Armenia came up with a suggestion to include several Georgians in Armenian Parliament as well. “His Excellency finds that presence of Georgians in National Assembly will considerably cheer up the overall atmosphere in the Parliament.
